Square tiles for bathrooms are a popular choice and probably one of the most common options to go for. And there’s good reason for that.

Why Square Tiles Are Popular for Bathrooms

Square tiles have enduring popularity for homeowners looking to create a stunning bathroom space that suits their needs. Whatever the style, there’s a square tile for it, and this versatility is key to their ongoing appeal.

Thanks to their shape, which makes them easy to line up, they’ve long been popular with tile fitters looking for an easy job and with anyone who wants to quickly revamp their bathroom.

While square tiles have always been in use in bathrooms throughout the UK and around the world, their popularity has been revived in recent months as designers embrace the retro look

Here are some of the main reasons why square tiles have been so popular in bathrooms for so long and why they’re having a resurgence right now.

Make a Small Bathroom Seem Bigger

There’s a reason it’s often called ‘the smallest room in the house’: most bathrooms aren’t very large, and the expansive fixtures like toilets and sinks only make them feel even smaller.

With square wall tiles – particularly large ones that cover an extensive surface area – you can make your small bathroom look and feel larger than it actually is.

Using large wall tiles can be a perfect solution for those who want a complete bathroom revamp without having to do a lot of work or move to a new home.

Design Versatility

When it comes to versatility, you can’t beat a square wall tile. Square wall tiles come in all shapes and sizes so that you can create the bathroom of your dreams.

Whether you’re looking for small, decorative tiles, patterned ones or large tiles that cover the entire wall like a paper or paint, there’s a square wall tile to suit your home. Unlike other shapes, square tiles can be used in modern or retro looks, so they’re ideal for any home design.

Large Square Bathroom Tiles

Large square bathroom tiles are a great option for covering a large area and creating a seamless, modern look.

Here are some of our favourite…

The Allure Collection

For a simple, sleek modern bathroom, you can’t beat our Allure collection. The matte-finished porcelain tiles work perfectly on walls and floors so that you can get a beautiful look throughout your space.

While they are white, they come with beautiful veining in beige, black and grey to create a unique look for every bathroom.

As such, they’re perfect for modern homes with small bathrooms.

Floor Tiles as Wall Tiles

The Casale Collection

If you’re looking for a subtle look across your floor and walls, then the Casale Collection could be the ideal choice for your next bathroom renovation project.

While not entirely square, these rectangular tiles can shake up a room and offer the same versatility with a slightly elongated shape.

These stunning ceramic floor and wall tiles come in two colours: pearl and dono grey. As such, they’re a versatile option for decorating any bathroom.

For smaller spaces, pearl, which is the lighter of the two colours, is the perfect choice. For a more industrial, stark look, dono grey works well.

The Arezzo Collection

If you’re looking for bold, glossy square tiles to cover your bathroom floor or walls, then the Arezzo collection is your ideal choice.

Boasting two colours, Marengo (a sleek grey) and Tortora (a rustic brown), these porcelain gloss tiles work well for both classic looks and modern homes. These beautiful tiles work well on walls and floors, so they’re ideal for large projects.

What is the Best Material for Bathroom Tiles?

When it comes to material for bathroom tiles, the best options are non-porous, durable materials like porcelain and ceramic

These materials are ideal because they will stand the test of time and can come in a range of colours and styles to suit any interior design.

If you’re using your bathroom tiles for the floor, you need to try to find thicker options that can withstand the weight of feet and furniture. For wall tiles, which are purely decorative, you can go with thinner options, as these are lighter and won’t put too much pressure on your property’s structure.

Some bathroom tiles, particularly those designed for flooring, come with anti-slip coatings, which can help you avoid falling on your slippery wet bathroom floor

How to Calculate Bathroom Tiles Square Metre

When you’re shopping for bathroom tiles, you need to make sure you buy enough to cover your space. If you don’t and run out, you might find yourself waiting for a new shipment or facing batches that don’t quite match up.

Luckily, it’s easier than you might think to figure out how many tiles you need. The best way to measure your bathroom is to determine how many square metres it is, and then you can divide it by how large each tile is.

Use these simple steps to measure your bathroom and work out how many tiles you need.

  1. For floors, measure the width and multiply it by the depth to work out the square metre area.
  2. For walls, measure the width of each wall and multiply it by the height, then times this by how many walls you have.
  3. When you’ve worked out how much square footage your bathroom is, you can figure out how many tiles you will need. Our tile product pages state the ‘quantity per m²’, helping you see the number of tiles you’ll need to cover your bathroom.
  4. Purchase a few extra tiles to cover any damage that might occur during fitting or any minor mistakes you might have made in measuring the space – usually, 10% extra is a safe option.

With these simple steps, you can accurately measure your bathroom surfaces and figure out how many tiles you need. If you’re still unsure, consider consulting one of our experts, who can guide you.
